Archil Guniava Wine Cellar est une petite cave familiale géorgienne située à Kvaliti, dans la région ouest d'Imereti en Géorgie. La famille produit du vin géorgien traditionnel depuis des générations, cultivant des cépages locaux sur un vignoble de 1,5 hectare. Récoltant tous les raisins selon des méthodes biologiques, Archil Guniava Wine Cellar a produit jusqu'à 1 100 bouteilles par an et exporte à l'international.

Archil Guniava est membre de la Natural Wine Association.


Reposant à 300 mètres d'altitude dans les collines de la région d'Imereti, la cave à vin Archil Guniava est dans un emplacement optimal pour la récolte du raisin, car tout Imereti est traditionnellement connu pour sa production agricole. Le climat et la structure du sol de la région offrent des conditions fertiles pour la culture du vin, l'air humide de la mer Noire se déplaçant vers l'intérieur des terres et la rivière Kvirila qui coule juste au nord de la cave.

La généalogie du raisin suggère que l'Otskhanuri Sapere est une variété de transition entre une vigne cultivée et une vigne sauvage. Cultivé dans toute la région d'Imereti dans l'ouest de la Géorgie, ce cépage mûrit de la mi-octobre à la fin octobre. Comme le Saperavi, il s'agit d'un cépage teinturier, produisant des vins à la robe rubis profond et opaque. Dans leur jeunesse, les vins sont mordants et structurés avec des tannins et une acidité élevés. Présentant des saveurs de fruits des bois, de baies rouges et d'herbes, ces vins ont un grand potentiel de vieillissement. Otskhanuri Sapere est considéré comme le meilleur cépage rouge d'Imereti.

What is an author wine?

This can be so diverse depending on the personality of their sire, that it is easier to define what it is not. An author wine is anything but a standard, stereotypical wine, made to please as many people as possible. It is therefore rarely produced in millions of copies, copying itself from vintage in vintage.

An author wine is therefore a wine that does not look like that of the neighbor. Which from year to year will evolve according to the vagaries of the weather and the mood of the author - the two that can be linked. Because the author does not rely on market studies to carry out his boat. He makes his wine as he feels, as he likes, as he can, sometimes ... and too bad if he does not please everyone.

This is why author wines are sometimes classified as "table wine" or "France wine". Because the winemaker did not plan the authorized grape variety*, makes the assembly or vinification recommended in the name **. He is often a bit rebellious, our author. But that is why we like it! ... That said, author's wines are not systematically marginal: they are present in most of the appellations, and can be part of the elite of these this***. As author's wines are not chaptalized, levied, hacked ... They can have very different profiles depending on the vintage. It is up to us (resellers and consumers) to accept them as they are, and to remain faithful to the producers, because they need us to continue their activity.
