Espera Wines
Rodrigo Martins created Espera (which means to wait is the basis of his philosophy) in 2014. After being a consultant nologue for many years for different areas.
Based in the Alcobaça region, north of Lisbon, Rodrigo works by following the principles of organic/biodynamic farming. He only works with indigenous grape varieties on an area of 5ha. Benefiting from a climate very influenced by the Atlantic Ocean bringing freshness, Rodrigo also has a philosophy of adapting to each vintage without wanting to apply the same vinification processes year after year.
Alcobaça is a region where the Cistercian monks were very present, they had an important influence in the development of viticulture.
Rodrigo is inspired by many of their practices, especially for the Palheto cuvée (assembly of white and red grapes, co-fermented). An artisan winemaker as we like an excellent level, not found in France and who works very reasoned sulfites.

What does the name organize mean?
This can be so diverse depending on the personality of their sire, that it is easier to define what it is not. An author wine is anything but a standard, stereotypical wine, made to please as many people as possible. It is therefore rarely produced in millions of copies, copying itself from vintage in vintage.
An author wine is therefore a wine that does not look like that of the neighbor. Which from year to year will evolve according to the vagaries of the weather and the mood of the author - the two that can be linked. Because the author does not rely on market studies to carry out his boat. He makes his wine as he feels, as he likes, as he can, sometimes ... and too bad if he does not please everyone.
