Field of sisters (castle)

The area, today, extends over 10 ha of vines, 9.5 ha of fields and 5,000 m2 of aloe vera in agroforestry.

Field of sisters

The muscat vine borders the ponds, it was harvested very early (July 25 in 2022) and gives birth to an explosive cuvée from an aromatic point of view: "White Pépettes"

White maceration wines, called "orange wines", are also another specialty in the field.

They mainly cultivate red grape varieties: Carignan, Grenache, Mourvèdre and a little Syrah.

The youngest plots are used to develop "the pepettes", light and fruity wines. Most often this wine, or rosé, title less than 12.5 % alcohol.

Fitou come from older vines, under 25 for the "Tradition" fitou and between 30 and 80 years for "Bel Lover" and "La Tina".

First day harvest

All the plots are scattered in the village of Fitou, both at 200m altitude and by the sea, near the ponds.

The entire field is not yet certified in organic farming. The recently acquired plots, vinified in red, cannot claim, for the moment, the AB logo on the label ... We will have to wait.

All the grapes are harvested by hand, in boxes, and vinified, most often, without sulfites and with native yeasts.

Marie - Vendage

The field of sisters is also Marie and Laurent, the couple, and the pair at work.

Marie is oenologist and viticulture teacher in Narbonne. She vinifies, raises wines and takes care of all administrative tasks. Laurent works the vines, maintains them lovingly (but there can stay for hours to contemplate a CEP or a aloe vera, fortunately, Marie watches).

Around them, several people, including Christian who vinifies with Marie and helps Laurent in the vineyards.

Vendage team

In the field of sisters, work is not subcontracted. From size to harvest, which are always manual and artisanal, we assume all the gestures.

The area is changing: agroforestry, aloe vera and desert or semi-desert climates. This does not mean that they abandon the vine or their roots. They diversify themselves by remaining faithful to their terroirs while naturally from the front.

Aloe vera is a minority, on the estate. It is cultivated very well in organic farming. We plant trees around him, for the good of this plant but also for the good of all.

What does the name organize mean?

This can be so diverse depending on the personality of their sire, that it is easier to define what it is not. An author wine is anything but a standard, stereotypical wine, made to please as many people as possible. It is therefore rarely produced in millions of copies, copying itself from vintage in vintage.

An author wine is therefore a wine that does not look like that of the neighbor. Which from year to year will evolve according to the vagaries of the weather and the mood of the author - the two that can be linked. Because the author does not rely on market studies to carry out his boat. He makes his wine as he feels, as he likes, as he can, sometimes ... and too bad if he does not please everyone.

This is why author wines are sometimes classified as "table wine" or "France wine". Because the winemaker did not plan the authorized grape variety*, makes the assembly or vinification recommended in the name **. He is often a bit rebellious, our author. But that is why we like it! ... That said, author's wines are not systematically marginal: they are present in most of the appellations, and can be part of the elite of these this***. Because they are not content to have personality: they are good, in addition! With in general aDegree of TorchabilityVery high: we never tire of it at the end of the first sip.

As author's wines are not chaptalized, levied, hacked ... They can have very different profiles depending on the vintage. It is up to us (resellers and consumers) to accept them as they are, and to remain faithful to the producers, because they need us to continue their activity.
