Depuis Robert de FERRAN, avocat au Parlement de Bordeaux, qui a donné son nom à ce vignoble exceptionnel, en passant par MONTESQUIEU, philosophe viticulteur et propriétaire du domaine au XVIIIe siècle, ce terroir n’a cessé de produire des vins rouges et blancs étampés à l’époque “Premiers graves Martillac”.

A proximité de crus classés, dans un écrin naturel de 70 hectares répartis entre vignes et foret aux arbres centenaires, cette propriété appartient à la même famille depuis 1880.

Philippe et Ghislaine LACOSTE, la cinquième génération, dirigent ce cru depuis 1999. Les investissements de restructuration du vignoble et de rénovation des chais entrepris ces dernières années, ont été très vite récompensés par de nombreuses médailles, et des bonnes notes de journalistes spécialisés.

Les travaux à la vigne, ébourgeonnages, effeuillages, éclaircissages, les vendanges manuelles parcelle par parcelle avec tri à la vigne et au cuvier, permettent de sélectionner et d’assembler les meilleurs lots lors de l’élevage selon des méthodes strictes.

A la dégustation, Château FERRAN dévoile des vins rouges équilibrés et délicats (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot) ainsi que des blancs secs, mélange de fraicheur et de minéralité (Sauvignon blanc, Sémillon).

WINE ADVOCATE BY Lisa Perrotti-Brown : 90-92 The Ferran 2018 blanc leaps from the glass with tropical notions of pineapple and green mango with touches of fresh apricots, melon and a waft of wet pebbles.

DECANTER by Jane Anson : 91 Well balanced and well judged, this white is good quality, fleshy and gourmet, without being too much. It's a touch soft through the finish but
this offers plenty to enjoy. 40hl/ha yield. Nine months barrel ageing, with lees stirring.

Bettane + Desseauve : 89/100 Nez très intense avec un fruit précis et de la minéralité, auxquels s’ajoutent des notes mentholées, bouche grasse, dense, très aromatique et
très nerveuse en finale. Un blanc de caractère et très énergétique.

What is an author wine?

This can be so diverse depending on the personality of their sire, that it is easier to define what it is not. An author wine is anything but a standard, stereotypical wine, made to please as many people as possible. It is therefore rarely produced in millions of copies, copying itself from vintage in vintage.

An author wine is therefore a wine that does not look like that of the neighbor. Which from year to year will evolve according to the vagaries of the weather and the mood of the author - the two that can be linked. Because the author does not rely on market studies to carry out his boat. He makes his wine as he feels, as he likes, as he can, sometimes ... and too bad if he does not please everyone.

This is why author wines are sometimes classified as "table wine" or "France wine". Because the winemaker did not plan the authorized grape variety*, makes the assembly or vinification recommended in the name **. He is often a bit rebellious, our author. But that is why we like it! ... That said, author's wines are not systematically marginal: they are present in most of the appellations, and can be part of the elite of these this***. As author's wines are not chaptalized, levied, hacked ... They can have very different profiles depending on the vintage. It is up to us (resellers and consumers) to accept them as they are, and to remain faithful to the producers, because they need us to continue their activity.
