The Boulay family has cultivated La Vigne in Chavignol since 1310. It is here that the Damnés mountains, Beaujeu's asses or the big coast. Gérard Boulay is at the head of an 11.5 ha area of vines, half being owned in property, the other being rented. Two hectares are dedicated to red and rosé wines, the rest is devoted to wine white.
Gérard Boulay is one of the rare winegrowers of the Sancerre appellation to work the soils. He plows with a caterpillar the most marked slopes (1.5 ha in Beaujeu cul, 1.8 ha in damned mountains and 45 ares in large coast). The vineyard treatments are as light as possible: no pesticides, anti-pride, nor chemical fertilizers. The domain uses a little organic compost, but without trying to make yield.
