"Parce que les vins d'avenir ont toujours un passé"

Telle est la devise des vins de Gaillac, un des plus anciens vignobles de France, et telle pourrait être aussi la devise du Château de Mayragues avec sa conversion en biodynamie en 1999.

Les vignes du Château de Mayragues s’étendent sur une superficie de presque 13 hectares. Protégées par un vaste de domaine de plus de 90 hectares composés champs et de bois qui lui offre un environnement de qualité dans lequel la culture de la vigne en biodynamie s'exprime depuis plus de 20 ans

Cépages : 70 % Duras, 30 % Syrah

Terroir : Calcaire à Argilo-Calcaire sur pente orientée Sud Ouest.

Culture : Densité à l'hectare 4000 pieds. Enherbement naturel, travail de la terre, désherbage mécanique. Pas de produits chimiques de synthèse, seulement soufre et cuivre en petites doses. Agriculture biodynamique depuis 1999

Vendanges : Manuelles à bonne maturité.

Vinification : Vendange égrappée. Fermentation en cuve à température contrôlée 25° - 30°C. Macération 45 jours. Vieillissement en cuve pendant un an. Non filtré

Dégustation : La robe est grenat sombre peu translucide. Le nez est discret, un peu réduit, laissant s'échapper quelques notes fruitées et épicées. La bouche allie ampleur et tension, avec une matière douce, caressante, qui vous nappe tout le palais, et un fil invisible qui vous étire tout cela avec une grâce incroyable. La combinaison des deux est magique, mettant en avant un fruit d'une grande pureté. La finale réussit à prolonger le miracle, se contentant d'ajouter des tanins un peu plus denses, mais offrant la séduction d'un latin lover avec sa barbe de deux jours, avec un fruit des plus ténébreux. Irrésistible.

What is an author wine?

This can be so diverse depending on the personality of their sire, that it is easier to define what it is not. An author wine is anything but a standard, stereotypical wine, made to please as many people as possible. It is therefore rarely produced in millions of copies, copying itself from vintage in vintage.

An author wine is therefore a wine that does not look like that of the neighbor. Which from year to year will evolve according to the vagaries of the weather and the mood of the author - the two that can be linked. Because the author does not rely on market studies to carry out his boat. He makes his wine as he feels, as he likes, as he can, sometimes ... and too bad if he does not please everyone.

This is why author wines are sometimes classified as "table wine" or "France wine". Because the winemaker did not plan the authorized grape variety*, makes the assembly or vinification recommended in the name **. He is often a bit rebellious, our author. But that is why we like it! ... That said, author's wines are not systematically marginal: they are present in most of the appellations, and can be part of the elite of these this***. As author's wines are not chaptalized, levied, hacked ... They can have very different profiles depending on the vintage. It is up to us (resellers and consumers) to accept them as they are, and to remain faithful to the producers, because they need us to continue their activity.
